iPad2 Coming Soon.. iPad3 Right Behind?? Not Likely..

By this point, we have likely all heard the rumors. The ones that say Apple will release an iPad 2 AND an iPad 3 this year. This is obviously outside of apple's Standard Operating Procedure of An update every 12 months or so. Nor does it really make sense from a marketing point of view. I mean, would you buy a 2011 Corvette, if the 2011.5 Corvette was going to be redesigned with more Horsepower? Nope.


It is not however, out of their S.O.P. to release disinformation to keep folks off their tails. The rumors of the iPad 3 seem like just that to me. If there is any truth to this rumor, I would be more likely to believe the release later in the year is a Carrier update, or the smaller 7 inch iPad that Jobs is rumored to have shot down already.

It is far more likely that this iPad 3, is actually the iPhone Nano. A smaller version of the iPhone, that Apple is planning to build. This phone would be to compete with the Cheap and Free Android market. Carriers will be able to sell these phones for $200 with no contract, or give them away for free with a two year contract. Droid currently dominates the low cost smart phone market, however if Apple were to throw into that arena with a slimmed down model iPhone.. With half the RAM, no cameras, no compass and a smaller screen... I am sure they would take control of that market.

The true strength of the iPhone lies in iOS. Making a cheaper version that is available to the masses, cause lets face it.. Not everyone can afford to spend $200 on a phone with a contract.. or upwards of $700 on just a phone. The iPhone is, in this bloggers opinion, the number one smart phone on the market.. But it is also one of the most expensive.
