Georgia to Consider iPads in lieu of Text Books

Yesterday, Tommie Williams, The Senate President pro tem announced that State Educators and legislators are considering an offer made to them by Apple last week, that would put iPads in the classrooms of middle schools thru out Georgia instead of books.

Mr Williams is quoted as saying,

“Last week we met with Apple Computers, and they have a really promising program where they come in and their recommending to middle schools – for $500 per child per year, they will furnish every child with an iPad, wi-fi the system, provide all the books on the system, all the upgrades, all the teacher training – and the results they’re getting from these kids is phenomenal.”

This would be an amazing leap forward for Georgia's Education system, IF they can find the funding for it. Georgia is reported to be spending about $40,000,000 a year on textbooks for their students. Many of which are out dated before the students even see them. With this new method, proposed by Apple, they would have the latest, most updated information at their fingertips! As well as a system wide WiFi network, provided by Apple.

This Blogger sees this as a wonderful opportunity for Georgia AND for Apple to make drastic changes to our Education Systems. If this program takes off in Georgia, it will only be a matter of time before the rest of the states follow suit. And as to be expected, when questioned about the possibility of iPads in schools, the Students are excited..to say the least.
