Meet Apple's New Global Head of Security

Meet the new head of Apple's Global Security... David Rice. Mr Rice will be responsible for getting the iPhones and iPads up to snuff in Security. Apple is pushing them hard at Corporations and Government. However, they have expressed concerns over the devices security. Namely the lack of encryption and lack of options as to how to deal with a lost or stolen unit. These are problems that have kept the iPhone from seeing a large scale roll out across many large corporations. Many of my own clients have balked at using them for the very same reasons.  This is one area where the Blackberry is still king. But not for long.....

Enter Mr. Rice, with his very interesting and colorful Security background...David Rice graduated the U.S. Naval Academy in 1994. From there he served as a "Special Duty Cryptologic Officer" for the U.S. Navy. Then as a Global Network Vulnerability analyst for the National Security Agency. He was also the Executive Director of the Monterey Group, which is a CyberSecurity consulting firm, based out of Silicon Valley. Mr. Rice was also employeed with Neohapsis, another security firm who based in Cambridge, focuses on Enterprise Risk Management. David Rice is also reported to be involved with the U.S. Cyber Consequences Unit, which is a research brain trust that investigates the potentials for Cyber Attacks and what their impact would be.

So suffice to say, Mr Rice should be up to the task of securing iOS and it's devices for use in the Government and Big Business. I look forward to a new more secure iOS. It will only lend itself to help further the iDevices migrating to Exchange environments.
